PRIMA ALPACA is a line of high standard quality women’s wear and accessories, elaborated after a selective choice of the best alpaca yarns. Imported from South America, these yarns are then knitted in Italy, with the care and the know-how of the most renowned factories.

The brand, Prima Alpaca, was created, in 2006, by Cristina Schneider of Austrian and Bolivian origin. After her studies in the United States and at the Political Science Institute in Paris, Cristina decides to share her passion for this exceptional wool, of which she wants to make a product of excellence.

She brings about her project after meeting in Latin America, the most important producers of the precious wool, and by calling upon the creativity of two designers endowed with a long experience, namely with Christian Lacroix.

Aimed at a sophisticated woman, notoriously up-to-date, elegant and tasteful —for whom luxury is also synonym of softness, comfort and cosiness— Prima Alpaca’s items are next to those in the exclusive department stores and boutiques which privilege quality.

Prima Alpaca wishes to bring to light that the alpaca fibre is not only meant for winter creations, but that, on the contrary, it is adequate for all seasons. Always staying consistent with its philosophy to work with natural raw materials, of impeccable quality, in 2007 Prima Alpaca has decided to launch a Spring/Summer collection comprising very fine garments, knitted in a subtle mix of Baby Alpaca and Silk yarns.

This accomplishment has allowed to emphasize the often underestimated virtues of the alpaca, this camelid native of the High Andean Plateaux. Indeed, this close cousin of the vicuña and the llama lives at an altitude of nearly 4000m and undergoes difficult climatic conditions, which explain why the animal develops a thick and tough hair.

Initially domesticated by the Incas, they were the first to understand this wool’s numerous qualities. Intended for the nobility, it was a highly prized exchange value.

Today the tradition prevails, and the alpaca has maintained its secular way of life which the breeders scrupulously defend. The quality of the wool depends on the age at which the animal is sheared. Royal and Baby Alpaca fibers are the result of the very first shears, and are of incomparable softness and lightness. They represent the essential constituents of the brand.

The chic and exquisite style of the garments, presented by Prima Alpaca encourages its international customers to appreciate the preciousness of this noble material.
